ABOUT US

It all started at Cranky Pats in Oshkosh, WI. My best friend and I were talking about cornhole and I mentioned that I could probably make a set of boards for him and I. A couple days later I went to the lumber store and bought some cheap MDF. I cut up some 2x4's and screwed a frame onto the MDF then used a jig saw to cut out a hole. I threw on some paint and posted my accomplishment on my social media page. It didn't take long (maybe 10 hours) and I had several requests from friends to make them a set. I made a few sets and then a few more sets and then I started thinking I needed to come up with a business concept. I created a logo, then a website (a free one) and I started tweaking my design ideas.

In December of 2016, I started messing around with what I would call version 1.2. This was an all 2x4 frame with a nicer plywood (not MDF - that stuff is really heavy and it's like a sponge when it's wet).

Over the next 12-18 months I made lots of boards for really good prices (around $75-120 a set with bags). I bought a sewing machine, a Cricut and some shelves that I used to support the boards as I painted them.

In 2018, I produced 16 sets of rental boards, bought an enclosed trailer and started working events. I changed over to a couple different types of plywood that made the boards more attractive and resilient.

In February of 2019 I decided that it was time to role out version 2.0 - new frame, new leg system, rounded outer edge and hole edge, and a landing surface that didn't have screw holes. This was a game changer. It also meant I was going to have to make a whole bunch of new rentals because I really liked my new style! It took a few events to realize the finish on the rentals needed some adjustment but we got that quickly figured out. Folks want to work the bags not the boards!

From the beginning this was always about creating high quality custom cornhole boards at an affordable cost that led to building positive memories for our customers.

We haven't strayed from this. We make high quality boards out of high quality materials that are custom to you! Nearly all of our boards are all stain and/or paint. We can do stickers (wraps) but it's really not our forte.

In 2021, we moved to Neenah, WI where we created a great new shop and invested in some new tools that expanded our capabilities. We now make cornhole boards, signs, bottle openers, cutting boards, shelves, tables, plaques, awards and so much more. We've made nearly 800 sets of boards through 2021 and now we're customizing new things for friends, family and customers. This meant that it was also time to expand our business name from Cornhole by Tarmann to something that widened what people thought we are capable of. Cornhole by Tarmann stayed but we added Woodenshoe Craft Co. to make sure customers knew we weren't just about cornhole boards.

We make cornhole boards, signs, cutting boards, bottle openers, awards, plaques, frames, custom bags, and we rent cornhole boards for events. We host tournaments, we rent cornhole boards for your graduation party or for any backyard party you're planning for. If your event has to do with Cornhole we're your Wisconsin resource! We service Neenah, Oshkosh, Appleton, Fond du Lac, Omro, Winneconne, Green Bay, Milwaukee and anywhere in between! If you're within 150 mi of Neenah, Wisconsin and you're looking to have an event, shoot us an email and we'll help you figure it out!
